Abstract

Abstract

The central dogma of dental identification is the comparison between postmortem dentalremains and ante-mortem dental records to confirm the personal identity. In mass disasters happened inIndonesia this method is almost impossible, since the ante-mortem dental record was usually not available. Inthis situation, however, postmortem dental examination is still useful to find the other general personalinformation, such as race, age, sex, blood group, eating habit, etc that will reduce the number of suspects(presumptive identification). DNA analysis performed from dental materials, such as enamel, dentin, cementand pulp, will confirm the identity of suspected / alleged person. We will report our techniques in handlingsuch cases when ante-mortem data is not available based on several mass disasters in Indonesia, such asbombing cases, ship and airline accidents. In mass catastrophes and natural calamities, the primaryidentification method is based on the findings of fingerprint, forensic dentistry and DNA analysis. In realcase, most of the personal identification is based on the finding dental (odontology) evidences, since the teethare resistant to the environmental influence, and degradation compared to other parts of the body. It wasproven thorough our investigations, that even when we were not supported by ante-mortem dental records, theinformation from post mortem dental examination is always useful for personal identification. To reduce thepossibility of in-identified victims, in the future Indonesia needs to standardize dental record, make anation-wide forensic odontology curriculum in Dental School, and provide the forensic odontology and DVItrainings for dentist .

Abstract

The level of drug knowledge and drug abuse among senior high school students in Denpasar City has been assessed between January to Mei 2010. A simple random sampling method was used to select the students. Under 90% confidence level was obtained 273 students, who involved in this study. The students were asked to answer the questionnaire to find out their knowledge of drug abuse effects. They also followed a urine screen test using rapid EMIT-test for the amphetamine, methamphetamine, opiate, cocaine, cannabis, and benzodiazepine. More than 95% of students had a not qualified level knowledge of drug abuse effects. We found out a positive correlation between the interest of the students to access drug information online or mass media to their knowledge. Based on screen test result of urine sample has shown that the abuse level on senior high school?s students in Denpasar City was estimated 0.73% benzodiazepine class abuse.

Abstract

Proving intercourse signs on sexual assault victims still become a major challenge for forensic physicians in Indonesia.  Many cases unsolved due to minimal evidences. One of the difficulties is evincing ejaculation in vagina.  Most of forensic laboratories only depend on spermatozoa examination to find ejaculate.  Surely, it is difficult to find spermatozoa if the perpetrators are azoospermia.  Moreover, this examination may give false negative results as well as low sensitivity, especially in women who have washed their vagina. However, nowadays, there is a rapid test to detect PSA in seminal fluid which is very practical, quick, and inexpensive.  This study will show the performance of PSA rapid test to detect male component in vaginal swabs taken from sexually assaulted victims. A cross sectional study was conducted between October 2012 and December 2012.  Sixteen vaginal swabs had been collected consecutively from raped women who were examined in gynecologic emergency ward Sanglah Public Hospital.  The vaginal swabs were tested with PSA rapid test and extracted for SRY gene analysis as a gold standard to confirm male genetic material.  The result of this study shows that PSA rapid test diagnostic values to detect male component in vaginal swabs are sensitivity 84.62%, specificity 100%, PPV 100%, NPV 60%, LR (+) 100%, LR (-) ~, and accuracy 87.5%.  These values are better than spermatozoa examination. Based on this study, PSA rapid test is highly recommended to take the place of spermatozoa examination as a new standard for proving sexual intercourse in Indonesia.

Abstract

A current research of screening and determination of codeine using Al-TLC Spectrophotodensitometry has been carried out. The separation was performed using TAEA mobile phase. Screening and confirmation were investigated by comparing hRfc of the analyte and hRfc those on data library. Combination hRfc vs correlation also been used as confirmation method, which can be enhanced by spectrum shift reaction using HCl 10% and KOH 0,1 M. The validation parameters were precission, linierity, limit of detection and quantitation (LOD & LOQ) and recovery.   TAEA mobile phase performed a good separation among morphine, codeine, caffeine, papaverine and bromhexine standards, which gave Rs value > 1. Test of linierity using regression gave correlation value > 0,99 . LOD and LOQ of Al-TLC were 137.85 ng and 459.63 ng. The recovery of codeine in human plasma using isopropanol as the precipitating agent was 77.1% ± 4.9 (6.5%).
