Abstract

AbstractThis paper is an attempt to critically interpret the text of Romans 9: 6-8 and 11:23-24 which was born because of Paul's struggle with what happened in the Christian community of Rome. Israel is God's covenant people, but on the other hand they have also expressed rejection of the salvation brought by Jesus Christ. The status of the covenant people is being questioned by non-Jews, is it still valid? Paul explained that "God's Word cannot fail," meaning that Israel's status as a chosen people does not fade away. But Israel's refusal at the same time gave space to other nations to be part of that publicity. God who chooses a nation, God also allows the transplanting of other nations to be part of His people.Key Words: Israel, New Israel, Christianity, Romans 9: 6-8 and 11: 23-24

Abstract

AbstractThis paper is an attempt to reinterpret the Song of Songs 7:10 - 8: 4 using the Critical Historical approach in a gender perspective. The Critical Historical Approach is a method of interpretation that emphasizes historical findings, both the history of the text and the history of the context of the text. For a very long time this passage has been interpreted allegorically, human relations with God are like lovers, but this time the text will be interpreted more freely and let it speak independently of traditional concepts of thought. The Song of Songs 7:10 - 8: 4 was written in the Babylonian Exile when the Persian Empire ruled the land. In socio-historical terms, the text can be understood to offer a new concept for the improvement of the nation which at that time needed new strength, namely gender equality between men and women. Equality of both sexes is an idea that is a great leap in that era.Key Words: Song of Songs 7:10 -8: 4, Interpretation, Gender Perspective, Equality.

Abstract

This paper is an attempt to explore the deepest message of Amos 8:4-8 with the socio-historical interpretation approach. Progress and prosperity that occurred in northern Israel in the 8th century BC gave birth to religious euphoria. The euphoria can be seen from the crowded places of worship visited by people to offer praise and sacrifice. But unfortunately, religious life has no impact at all on their social life, greed and oppression occur here and there. This is the background to the criticism of the prophet found in Amos 8: 4-8. The socio-historical interpretation approach used in this study is a tool to explore the meaning of the text by investigating the social context of the community when the text was written. The results of the interpretation explain that the middle and upper classes form an economic system that harms the lower classes, namely small farmers and urbanites. Worship is useless if it does not give rise to social care for others.
