Abstract

This paper describes the use of NLP in the teaching of English communication. Actually, there are two kinds of communication, verbal and non verbal communication. So that in teching English for communication, those kinds of communication should be extreamly considered. Many methods of teaching employed which are still based on humanistic methods consisting of community language learning (CLL), suggestopedia, the Silent Way, Total Physical Response (TPR) and natural approach focuse only on verbal communication. In fact, in communication, both verbal and nonverbal aspects are important to comprehend. So far, there are still many students who are frustrated at being unable to express themselves, and to communicate among people although they have been learning English for many years. In NLP, the language learning process is how learners experience the world, and how to decrease the anxiety of learners who are learning English. The increasing propularity of NLP in English language teaching is a reflection on the low self-esteem of educators and students.

Abstract

Writing ability is a skill that must be mastered by students. One of the media can be applied in teaching writing is TV Newscast. The objective of this research is to find out whether the writing ability of the eleventh-grade students of SMKN 1 Kudus in 2016/2017 academic year after being taught by using TV newscast is better than before. This study is experimental research; in this research, the writer used one group pre-test post-test design. There are two variables; they are TV newscast (independent variable) and the students' writing ability (dependent variable). The population of the research is the eleventh-grade students of SMKN 1 Kudus in 2016/2017 academic year. The writer used random cluster sampling as the technique to take the sample. Then XI AK 1 (accountancy class) consists of 38 students was taken. The research used achievement test as instrument for measuring the students' writing ability before and after being taught by using TV newscast and then the data were analyzed using the statistical formula. Based on the result of this research, the t0 (obtained) was higher than t-critical (20.09 1.56). It showed that t0 (obtained) on the critical area and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Then the conclusion is that the writing ability of the eleventh-grade students of State Vocational School 1 Kudus in 2016/2017 academic year after being taught by using TV newscast is significant.

Abstract

This research is to describe the forms and translation techniques of Euphemism in the rendering of The Dancer novel by René TA Lysloff. The researcher used a qualitative method with a content analysis technique. The Data of research are in the forms of clauses containing expressions of Euphemism. The data source was taken from Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk (RDP) novel and its translation of the Dancer. The result showed that there were 35 data (83.3%) of the Euphemism forms of translated into euphemisms, and only 7 data (16,7%) of euphemisms were translated into other forms. The techniques used include single, duplet, and triplet techniques. The conclusions of the research showed that there were shifts in ideological forms and values of the translated novel.

Abstract

This study attemps to describe the language use or stylistics of short stories “Mata yang Enak dipandang written by Ahmad Tohari. The way Tohari expresses his ideas can be seen from his choice of lexicalitems, and sentence constructions. He uses metaphore, simile, personification, tautology, hyperbole, climax, anticlimax, repetition, paradox, and nature words, rhetorical sentences, polisindeton, andasindenton in order to emphasize his ideas, to emerge a wholeherated impression, and to attract reader’s interet. Syntatically, he uses both short and long sentences. They are combined to avoid a monotonous impression.Kata Kunci: Gaya bahasa, Mata Yang Enak Dipandang, Stilistika

Abstract

Translation has a crucial role in human life. It is viewed in different ways recently and theories of translation are more focused on factors that influence translators’ decision making.  Despite the importance of the ideology in translation, there is lack of research in this area, especially on literary translation.  This research tries to investigate the lexical choice in order to determine the ideology of the translator on literary translation. The researcher applied Fairclough approach focusing on experiential values; namely Classification Schemes and Ideological contested words which depict the text producer’s experience of the natural and social world. The result showed that lexical choices and manipulation were made due to linguistic and cultural differences. The translators selected similar vocabularies for representing the ideology of the original author. The translator also selected various translation strategies to make a meaning equivalent. They are phonological translation, borrowing, generalization, descriptive technique, contextual conditioning, cultural equivalent, and literal translation.

Abstract

Abstrak            Arah sebuah kebijakan publik khususnya dalam  pendidikan adalah penentu masa depan sebuah bangsa. Apabila arah ini tidak jelas, maka berakibat pada kekacauan kompetensi dan perilaku apa yang harus diajarkan kepada generasi penerus bangsa agar mampu menghadapi masa depan sesuai dengan arah yang ditetapkan. Kekacauan tersebut menyebabkan muatan materi pengajaran akan berlebihan dan membuat beban belajar anak semakin berat. Padahal subtansi pendidikan itu berawal dari arah dan konsep yang jelas, hal ini juga pernah dikemukakan oleh Budiono dalam artikelnya di Kompas (Senin, 27 Agustus 2012) lalu. Ketidakjelasan konsep disebabkan ketidakjelasan ideologi yang kita terapkan. Ideologi Pancasila masih kekadar nama, tetapi pada kenyataannya Pancasila yang disakralkan ternyata dicampakkan dalam pembuatan setiap kebijakan negara, termasuk kebijakan pendidikan oleh pemerintah. Kata Kunci: Refleksi kritis, Kebijakan Pendidikan, dan Ideologi Pendidikan

Abstract

AbstrakSecara umum kualitas pendidikan di Indonesia masih rendah sehingga patut memperoleh perhatian serius dari berbagai kalangan: pemerintah, praktisi pendidikan, dan masyarakat. Mutu sumber daya manusia Indonesia tidak jauh berbeda dengan kualitas pendidikan di negeri ini. Karena, kualitas pendidikan terkait erat dengan kualitas sumber daya manusia. Jika proses pendidikan ditata kelola secara professional maka akan melahirkan manusia yang bermutu, Hal tersebut mengisyaratkan adanya paradoks antara pentingnya Sumber Daya Manusia Handal (Human Capital) untuk kemajuan suatu Negara di satu sisi dengan kondisi riil kualitas hasil  pendidikan di Indonesia baik pada jenjang Sekolah Menengah maupun Pendidikan Tinggi di sisi lain. Oleh karena itu perlu mencari solusi agar bangsa yang potensial ini bisa sejajar dengan bangsa lain pada era globalisasi secara umum, dan dapat meningkatkan prestasi pada survey assesmen internasional  PISA secara khusus.Kata kunci: kualitas pendidikan, mutu sumber daya manusia handal, kapital
