Abstract

The Balinese people tend to work on the cruise ship. In the last four years, the number of the Balinese women who work on the cruise ship has increased significantly, namely, by 33,84%. This present study is intended to analyze the socio-cultural implication of the Balinese women who work on the cruise ship as part of the tourism industry. Qualitative data are used in the present study. The data were analyzed qualitatively. The result of the study shows that the Balinese people were proud of being employed on the cruise ship as they had the opportunity to see the other countries which they had never dreamed of visiting. The socio-cultural life of the countries they had visited was unique and was completely different from the Balinese socio-cultural system. The socio-cultural life of the Balinese women who were employed on the cruise ship can be divided into; (a) the social implication; being employed on the cruise ship enabled them to improve the social status of themselves and their families, and (b) the cultural implication; being employed on the cruise ship enabled them to understand and conserve their culture. They acknowledged that their strong cultural tradition could impede them from being employed on the cruise ship. The paternal traditional life which is attached to the Balinese people and benefits the Balinese people sometimes cause the Balinese people to hesitate to be employed on the cruise ship.

Abstract

Abstrak:Aplikasi multimedia dalam pembelajaran materi Tata Hidangan akan menjadi lebih menarik, karena materi yang disajikan lebih mudah dipahami mahasiswa karena dilengkapi dengan visualisasi baik statik maupun dinamik. Berdasarkan hasil analisis tentang persepsi mahasiswa terhadap modul Tata Hidangan pada Program Studi Perhotelan Politeknik Negeri Bali menunjukkan bahwa persepsi mahasiswa dalam ujicoba perseorangan diperoleh skor rata rata 83.56%, kelompok kecil rata-rata 85.28%, dan uji coba lapangan rata-rata 84.81%. Nilai tersebut memenuhi kriteria sangat layak dan tidak perlu direvisi. Terjadi perbedaan yang signifikan pada hasil belajar mahasiswa berdasarkan hasil pretes dan postes yang dilakukan, sehingga modul Tata Hidangan yang dikembangkan ini mampu meningkatkan kompetensi mahasiswa dalam melaksanakan kegiatan praktek di restoran. Kata kunci: Persepsi, mahasiswa, kompetensi, modul, tata hidangan.Abstract:Through multimedia application the food and beverage service instructional becomes more interesting since the material presented is more easily understood by students and it is equipped with both static and dynamic visualization. The result of the analysis on the student?s perception on the food and beverage service module of Hotel Study Program at Bali State Polytechnic showed that the perception of student in the individual tryout was at the average score of 83.56%, the small group was at the average score of 85.28%, and the field tryout was at the average score of 84.81%. The value met the requirements and does not need to be revised. There is a significant difference on the achievement of students based on the result of pre test and post test. Therefore the module of food and beverage service that has been developed is able to increase the competency of student in conducting the activities in restaurant.Key words: Perception, student, competency, module, food and beverages service.

Abstract

Hospitality Study Program, Politeknik Negeri Bali (PNB), hadn’t implemented integrated learning practice optimally. The aim of this research was improving the learning process method as an integrated practice learning model involving three courses (Food Production, FB Service, English for Restaurant) in the same topic. This study was conducted on the forth semester of Hotel Study Program as the sample used in this research. After the random sampling was selected two classes as research samples, those were IVA class as an experiment group and IVB class as a control. Thus the samples could be determined according to the number of students in each class as many as 26 people. The application of integrated practice learning had an effect on the achievement of student competency in waiter/s occupation at Hotel Studies Program. The result of statistical test showed that there was a significant difference of competency achievement between integrated learning practices with partial practice learning students groups. It’s suggested to the management Hospitality Study Program to encourage and to facilitate the lecturers especially of core subjects to apply integrated learning practices in order to achieve the competency.

Abstract

Kini semakin banyak desa di Bali menggali potensi desanya agar mampu bersaing secara kompetitif guna mendapatkan manfaat dari aktivitas pariwisata. Salah satu desa yang sedang berbenah untuk mengembangkan desa wisata yaitu Desa Kaba-Kaba. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji keberadaan warisan “cagar budaya” dalam pengembangan Desa Wisata Kaba-Kaba. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan metode observasi, wawancara, dan studi pustaka dengan analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Desa Kaba-Kaba mengusung cagar budaya sebagai ikon atau ciri khas dari pengembangan desa wisata yang disinergikan dengan keasrian alam persawahan sebagai paket wisata cycling unggulan. Pengangkatan warisan “cagar budaya” sebagai ikon Desa Wisata Kaba-Kaba menunjukkan bahwa kesadaran masyarakat akan pelestarikan warisan budaya semakin kuat guna mendukung implementasi Perda Provinsi Bali No.4/2014. Masyarakat lokal antusias mendukung hal tersebut agar pengembangan pariwisata di desanya dapat berkelanjutan. Disarankan kepada pemerintah harus tetap memantau eksistensi warisan “cagar budaya” agar tetap ajeg dan lestari di masa depan.

Abstract

The participation rate of Balinese labor in cruise ships over the last years has dramatically increased. The growth of Balinese labor who works on cruise ships in the past four years reached more than 18 percent. This fact seems unique since working there does not only attract Balinese men as happened in the past but also the women. It is happening because they have been prepared themselves in accordance to the competencies and qualifications needed in cruise ships. The present study aimed to analyze the impacts of Balinese women works on cruise ships overview from economic and socio-cultural perspective. The research subjects were Balinese women who used to or were still working in the cruise ships. This research used qualitative data. The collected data started from one Balinese women having experience in the cruise ships and then spread to the other workers. To answer the research questions, data collection was conducted through observation and deep interviews. The data were analyzed by qualitative analysis. The impact of Balinese women working in cruise ships was overviewed from economic and socio-cultural perspectives. The economic perspective likes: Balinese women working in cruise ships able to improve the family economy, and employment for the community directly or indirectly in the cruise ships. The socio-cultural perspective likes: by working in cruise ships able to motivate the other Balinese women to works on cruise ships, with working in cruise ships can open the horizons and the way of thinking society, increase the personal discipline, and then improve the science and technology in tourism especially at cruises, and growth the awareness to conserve the cultural after seeing the variety of cultures in the word

Abstract

The aim of this article is to understand the economic, social, and cultural factors that motivate Balinese women to work on cruise ships. This research employed qualitative and quantitative methods. The data collection was done through distributed questionaries and deep interview to Balinese women who have worked or currently working on cruise ships. The data suggested that the three aforementioned factors (economic, social, and cultural) significantly influences Balinese women to work on the cruise ships. The statistical analysis suggested that the economic factor is more dominant in motivating Balinese women to work on cruise ships, then followed by cultural and social factors. This means that the economic factor is the main reason for the Balinese women to choose the job vacancies on the cruise ships. In the light of the above finding, this study suggests, firstly a more proactive role from the government, specifically in the form of Balinese women empowerment to work on cruise ships. The empowerment can be done through the provision of proper training and education to Balinese women, so that they can compete in fillinf the job vacancies in the cruise ships. Secondly, the study also suggests for the Balinese women to prepare themselves for cruise ship opportunities by improving and developing their knowledge and skill, so they can compete in global cruise ship career competition

Abstract

Serangan Village is one of the famous tourist destinations in the island of Bali both by domestic tourists and foreign tourists. The existence of this destination is very strategic because it is 10 km from Denpasar city. Serangan village is very potential to be developed into a tourism village because it has a unique tourist attraction to support the development of tourism, namely: natural tourist attraction (Pura Sakenan, Pura Dalem Cemara, marine tourism, turtle conservation, manggrove ecotourism); cultural tourism attraction (cultural custom, telek dance); and special tourist attractions (culinary, souvenirs craft shells). The tourist attraction above is a big capital in tourism development in the Serangan village. However, all potentials must be managed professionally so that tourism development in Serangan village can be sustainable. The goal is that tourist attractions in Serangan village can be enjoyed by the current generation and future generations. Therefore, its management must be involved all stakeholders  both government, private sector, and the community as the owner of Serangan village.Therefore, it is suggested to all stakeholders to synergize in determining the direction of tourism development policy of Serangan tourism village so as to be able to compete competitively with other tourist villages in Bali. Abstract

Desa Serangan merupakan salah satu destinasi wisata yang sudah terkenal di pulau Bali baik oleh wisatawan nusantara maupun wisatawan mancanegara. Keberadaan kawasan ini sangat strategis karena berada diantara dua destinasi wisata utama yaitu kawasan pariwisata Nusa Dua di selatan dan kawasan pariwisata Sanur berada di belahan timur dayanya. Desa Serangan berada 10 km dengan pusat Kota Denpasar.  Desa Serangan sangat potensial untuk dikembangkan menjadi desa karena memiliki daya tarik wisata yang unik seperti keindahan alam pantai yang berpasir putih serta usaha pelestarian hewan langka penyu. Perekonomian  masyarakat desa Serangan adalah dominan dari kegiatan kelautan dan perikanan. Kegiatan perekonomian tersebut terdiri atas berbagai kegiatan terkait dengan bidang perikanan yaitu adanya kelompok nelayan pantai yang menangani terumbu karang, kelompok nelayan yang menangani keramba, dan kelompok nelayan lepas pantai untuk menangkap ikan di laut lepas.  Namun hasil masyarakat tersebut belum terkelola secara professional, sehingga belum mampu memberikan manfaat maksimal terhadap kesejahteraan masyarakat. Oleh karena itu diperlukan pendidikan dan pelatihan terhadap masyarakat desa Serangan khususnya ibu-ibu PKK sehingga mampu meningkatkan nilai jual dari hasil perikanan para nelayan lokal. Kegiatan pelatihan oleh tim Food and Beverages Division Politeknik Negeri Bali terhadap masyarakat lokal (ibu-ibu PKK) telah mampu meningkatkan pengetahuan dan ketrampilan mereka dalam mengolah makanan berbahan dasar ikan laut dalam usaha mendukung sektor pariwisata yang berkembang di desa Serangan.

Abstract

Tabanan regency is one of tourist destination area in Bali that has many tourism areas spreading over the district and the village. One of tourism destination has been famous in Tabanan regency is Alas Kedaton tourist destination.The location of Alas Kedaton tourist destination is about 7 km from the Tabanan city. The objective of this research is (a) to know the image Alas Kedaton tourist destination by the tourist, (b) to define the marketing sustainability strategic which will be applied in the future. The data were used are secondary data and deep interview with the informan who understood about the Alas Kedaton tourist destination. Based on the research that Alas Kedaton tourist destination has positive image. The strategy that can applied is focusing on: product brand identity, spirit of the caracteristic brand, the marketing focus to the domestic market and joint venture with travel agent to market Alas Kedaton tourist destination in the future.

Abstract

As one of the most popular destinations for international tourists, Bali has attracted a sizeable and growing labor force in the tourism sector of the economy. This fact has triggered Balinese labor force to participate in such service industry. As a supplier of tourism labor force Bali has been increasingly successful in promoting the number of workers to be employed on cruise ships. The participation rate of Balinese women in cruise industry over the last four years has dramatically increased. The Balinese women’s participation in cruise ship employment has brought major implications for their life and culture. Generally, the present study aimed to provide an overview of Balinese women employed on board of a cruise ship. More specifically, it examined (1) the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats faced by Balinese women working in cruise industry, (2) factors influencing them to work in the industry, and (3) the implications brought by such employment for their life and society. The present study used quantitative and qualitative data collected through economic, social, and cultural approach. The sample was comprised of 200 respondents selected using accidental sampling method. To answer the research questions, data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, as well as focus group discussion (FGD). The data on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats faced by Balinese women on board of a cruise ship were analyzed using SWOT analysis, whereas the data on the factors influencing them to work in the cruise industry were analyzed using factor analysis. Finally, qualitative analysis was employed to analyze the data on the economic, social, and cultural implications for their life. The analysis showed that: (1) Balinese women were employed on board of a cruise linerpredominantly as support staff. The strengths of Balinese women cruise ship workers included being friendly, always smiling, being honest, being loyal, being responsible, and being highly skilled. Their weaknesses included having low motivation to get a high position, having low English proficiency level, and having insufficient self-confidence. The job opportunities were still high since women were generally reluctant to work in the cruise industry. The threats they faced included the lack of concern on the part of the government, agents providing poor services and unjustly treating applicants. (2) The factors influencing Balinese women to work in the cruise industry were of economic, social, and cultural. (3) The implications brought by the cruise ship employment for Balinese women were divided into three: economic implication, social implication, and cultural implication. Economic implication refers to their ability to help increase their family income. (b) Social implication refers to the fact that through employment in the cruise industry they could elevate their and their family social status. Lastly, (3) cultural implication refers to their contribution to the preservation of their own culture (i.e. Balinese culture).
