Abstract

The globalization era which is full of challenges couldnot be avoided. Therefore, the educational institutions, especially islamic education, should be able to answer those challenges in order to change the direction of educational orientation. One of figures who is serious in building educational thinking paradigm is A. Malik Fadjar. This study aims to explore his educational thinking paradigm and educational concept proposed. A. Malik Fadjar faces the challenge of global era. The result of study showed that his educational thinking paradigm is holistic; in which the education is humanists, liberative, integralistics, multicultural and futuristic, either in the aspect of vision and mision, institution, management, patterns of educational interaction, curriculum, and educator. To face global era, A Malik Fadjar states that there are three big challenges, they are to protect the result achieved, anticipate the global era, and do some changes and adjustment of the national education system.

Abstract

The theory of politeness suggests strategies in social interaction by which a person can use to save the hearer’s face upon the effect of face-threatening acts or FTAs. Face threatening acts are described by Brown and Levinson as the acts that infringe the hearer’s need of maintaining his/her self-esteem and be respected. Brown and Levinson accepted that the notion of face is respected as universal norms or values subscribed to by the members of the society. In that regard, this article provides a discussion about various viewpoints on the debate of universality of politeness theory and criticisms addressed by eastern-pragmaticists that this theory should not be seen as universally applicable. Cultural differences, as suggested by non-western pragmaticists, accord what is accepted in the context of face in western culture to be not accepted in other cultures. Therefeore, although we accept that Brown & Levinson’s theory has made a significant breakthrough in elaborating politeness, appropriation of this theory should be accounted in intercultural communication instead to accept it as universal.

Abstract

A strategy for a school headmaster is the most decisive factor in succeeding school’s quality improvement. This study aims at describing a main strategy planning, implementation, supervision and barriers in educational quality improvement. The study used a qualitative approach in descriptive methods. The data collection were used are observation, interview and documentation. The subjects of the study are the school committee, school head masters, teachers and Students. The result of the study shows that: 1) the main strategy planning in school quality improvement is by involving all school personnel, in which the head master of the school give an opportunity to the teachers to engage in quality planning, the head master of the school cooperate with the committee in formulating the school budget. 2) Head master strategy in improving the teaching quality is placing the teaching professionally, to learn an appropriate curriculum, to assist and to give suggestion to the teachers, as well as new student test implementation. 3) Strategy of the head master of the school in controlling school quality being conducted is using teaching supervision group controlling and individual techniques on quality improvement activities. 4) Some barriers on the implementation of the head master of the school quality are that the head master of the school could not spend the time and control all the school activities. The teachers are lack of ability to operate the advance school facility. The students’ evaluations which involved students’ parents who often do not welcome their sons’ shortcomings. This case is the difficulty of the teachers to evaluate.

Abstract

Curriculum applied at the Islamic university and the State Islamic University (UIN), especially the Faculty of Dawa and Communication, seems have some weaknesses that need to be the primary concern of the policy makers. This weakness can be seen from the number of subjects with general learning aims so each teacher can interpret the intent of the curriculum in various ways.In addition, the required credits are quite overload, so the main professionsthat are expected to arise from the majors or courses are not concrete and focused.Based on the description above, this paper tries to study, describe, and analyze thephilosophical framework of curriculum in Faculty of Dawa descriptively, and suggest the reorientation of curriculum as well as the the actualization reconstruction of the curriculum of the Faculty of Dawa and Communicationwhich has future oriented.

Abstract

This study aims to know the correlation between the results of making mind mapping with the learning outcomes of students. The population used in this study were all students of the Department of Chemistry Education UIN Ar-Raniry angkatan 2010 as many as 49 students, while a sample is a student of Chemical Education UIN Ar-Raniry unit I 2010 as many as 28 students. The data was collected through observation sheets, tests, questionnaires and rubrics of mind mapping. The data obtained were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation formula that results of the data processed using SPSS 16. The results showed an increase in activity and the students seemed enthusiastic students participating in learning activities. The percentage of active students at the first meeting at 73.86% and 93.18% in the second meeting. Student learning outcomes with the used of mind mapping in the classical methods achieve mastery of 89.29%. Percentage of students who gave positive responses to the use of mind mapping method reaches 82.15%. The results showed that: (1) There is a positive relationship between the results of making mind mapping the learning outcomes of students in the material paper chromatography. Abstract

One of the obligations that must be undertaken by students of College of Islamic Studies (STAIN) Malikussaleh Lhokseumawe, is to study Arabic course. The problem encountered in teaching Arabic is the difference between curriculum applied from students’ abilities. The purpose of this study is: to find out about the curriculum used in teaching Arabic at STAIN Malikussaleh Lhokseumawe، knowing the schools efforts to progress in teaching Arabic at STAIN Malikussaleh Lhokseumawe and find out the problems faced by the teachers in promoting learning Arabic in STAIN Malikussaleh Lhokseumawe. The results of this study are: (1) Teaching Arabic at STAIN Malikussaleh Lhokseumawe is using “Al-‘Arabiyyah Lak 1” dan “Al-‘Arabiyyah Lak 2”. However, most teachers do not employ suitable methods and medias. Some students said that teachers do not use the media, but the board and textbooks. (2) The effort to improve learning Arabic at STAIN Malikussaleh Lhokseumawe requires teachers to use appropriate methods and media in teaching and learning. (3) The problems faced by teachers are quite related to teaching materials that do not match with students’ ability. Furthermore, only few teachers who apply research methods and use of the learning media. Keywords: Keywords:

Abstract

This article describes the nature of human beings, their characteristics, their potentials, and the development of the potentials. Some philosophers claim that a human being is considered animal for having some tendencies that are believed similar to an animal. However, this argument is contradictive to what is believed by Muslim. Humans have certain characteristics that naturally different from animals. They also posses potentials (innate potentials or innate tendencies) that can be develop naturally through life-experience or artificially through formal instruction such as schools and other educational institutions.

Abstract

A study has been conducted on the use of Student Work Sheets (LKPD) to improve Flexible thinking skills in terms of gender differences. The research was conducted at SMAN 11 Banda Aceh. Flexible thinking is the ability to generate varied answers or ideas and can see a problem from different perspectives. LKPD is a sheet containing tasks that are usually in the form of instructions and steps to complete the task. Both classes are male and female class using LKPD method. The method used is one-group pretest posttest design. Data collection is done by technique of description test that is to measure Flexible thinking skill. The results showed that there were differences in the increase of male and female group of students to Flexible thinking skill with the use of LKPD on kinetic gas theory material with significance value 0,05 and Fhitung (1,85)

Abstract

This research aims to improve students’ memory in learning geometry using Macromedia Flash Animation of grade X at SMA Negeri 3 Banda Aceh. It is classroom action research consisted of 2 cycles and using the worksheets. Geometry test was given after formative test and students’ responses questionnaire in learning. At the end of the research, it shows that (1) in first cycle that the average post-test score is 76.5 and at the second cycle is 80.1;(2) The Formative score test is 73.4; (3) students attitudes and responses towards learningmathematics by using Macromedia Flash are: (a) It was easy to memorize Mathematics instructional in first cycle is 80.77% and at the second cycle is 86, 15%, (b). Students could easily understand Mathematics instructional in first cycle is 65.38% and second cycle is 80.77% and (c) Students were active in group learning activities is 92.31% in first cycle and 100% in the second cycle.

Abstract

Iqbal states that Islamic education should cover the human totality. Therefore, Islamic education put stress in a maximum action and creativity for human growth and development physically and mentally. The goal of Islamic education is to train individual to be good so that they can actualize himself to be a creative person with full of faith. To catch the reality is from reflective observation and intuition process or “love” called heart observation. The achievement of this process is callled by Iqbal as metaphysic knowledge.
