Abstract

This writing tries to compare between the concept of education brought by Dewey, as a modern western educator and asy-Syaibani as an Islamic educator. Both have different background and basic foundation when they formulate the basic concept of education. Therefore, there are some substantial differents and similarity between them. In general, both thoughts can be used to develop the education in Indonesia.

Abstract

The quality of education can be enhanced through the development of learning processwhich in turn will automatically affect the quality improvement of school’s graduates. It indeed really depends on school management and teachers’ approaches. Therefore, some factors should be noticed seriously are students’ development, autonomy, democratic atmosphere, exploratory approach, freedom, students’ experiences, balance between social and individual quality of students, also emotional quotient as well as spiritual quotient.

Abstract

In teaching learning process, teachers have to use some media of instruction. They have to be able to select appropriate media with the concept that they want to teach. In biology, especially the concept of biodiversity, the teacher should explain and introduce the students to various plants available around them including herb plants. It will be one of solution for a teacher to achieve an optimum goal if they can use the diverse plant around them. The successful of learning especially in the field of biology can be seen from cognitive, affective and psychomotoric aspects which is hoped to be achieved if the teachers as educators can guide their students to know about the plants in the field.

Abstract

The result of learning is coming from the skill someone has accepted after following learning activities. Students’ achievement can be seen from various domains they are cognitive, affective, psychomotoric. To know the skill that students have to achieve, we need to pay attention toward learning achievement as well as the quality of students’ changed behaviour. This article discusses about 6 teaching skills that teachers should own, namely: (1) skill to open the teaching, (2) skill to explain, (3) skill to question, (4) skill to emphasize, (5) skill to conduct various techniques in teaching learning, and (6) skill to close the teaching learning process.

Abstract

Teacher as a curriculum developer has to be able to translate, explain and transform the values involved in the curriculum to his/her students. To develop the curriculum, a teacher can do the following activities, they are: planning, implementing and evaluating the curriculum. Through planning the curriculum, the teacher can predict what he/she want to achieve in the learning process. After planning, he/she should implement it. There are some steps the teacher can do in teaching such as preparing his/her students, explaining the material, assessing students and getting feedback to know the successful of teaching.

Abstract

Nowadays, after free trade area has openned, the alumni of higher education (including Tarbiyah Faculty) have to win the competition from other higher institutions alumni by having high competence in their field of study. They must have good knowledge on their field and be skillful. The additional skills that are necessary to face the global competition are having foreign language competences (English and Arabic), mastering computer/internet, having high working ethic, being able to work in team, and being able to express themselves. To develop the main competences is the duty of department, while, the additional one is the duty of faculty. If the alumni do not have any additional competences, they will be difficult to get a job. They will be jobless because of their incapability to compete with others. Abstrak

Abstract

Ibrah is a condition in which someone reach an abstract knowledge from a concrete onethrough observation and contemplation to know the core of certain problem by observing, testifying, considering, measuring and deciding logically until having the conclusion that can affect someone’s heart to obey Allah. In Al Quran, there are various instances of Ibrah depend on the object of ibrah itself such as in the form of story, story of Allah’s creatures, story of His grace, and also in the form of historical events. One of ibrah that is found in Al Quran is a dialogue between Prophet Ibrahim and his father in Surah Maryam verse 42-48.

Abstract

In Indonesian Islamic education, Mahmud Yunus is an educationalist who is full of idea and discourse to reform the Islamic education. Moreover, as the one who get involved in Religious department bureaucracy and other structural positions in Islamic institution, including his last career as the first rector of Imam Bonjol Islamic Institution of Padang, Mahmud Yunus has some chances to manifest his idea and discourse widely through his positions. If we try to analyze his idea on reformation in education and teaching, we can clearly see that he has put serious attention to Arabic Language and Arabic teaching. He has written many books such as Arab-Indonesia Dictionary (Qamus), Arabic Language Textbook, called Durus al-Lughah al-‘Arabiyyah, and a special book about Arabic Teaching.

Abstract

Among the latest problems encountered in the Arabic teaching in Islamic University is the poor ability of students in comprehending Arabic texts, either classic or contemporary ones. This is not only caused by the insufficiency of student ability in understanding sentence structure, but also the scantiness vocabulary mastery. The use of mu’jam ‘arabi as one of the language learning methods is very important. Unfortunately in Islamic university, there is no exclusive Arabic encyclopedia. This paper explores the urgency of mu’jam in coping with some problems of Arabic teaching in Islamic university, such as IAIN, STAIN and others.

Abstract

The education for Moslem should be based on the Islamic educational philosophy. In fact, nowadays the education tends to follow the western or non-moeslem education style. The factors affecting this among others are: there are some physical and mental colonization which occurred in the whole country which has the majority of moeslem society in the past. Besides, there are some values among moeslem themselves after they are assimilated with other thoughts and culture. Both factors are facing and will be faced by Moslems continuously. This condition is very dangerous for Moslems. To reduce or at least to minimize the danger for Moslems society, one way to solve the problem is through educational Islamization at school. The main contraint is good will from government and society. Besides, the teacher competency is still low and also lack of proper references. The islamization process will work well with the support from many people.
