Abstract

This article tries to explore the new paradigms of Islamic education. Islamic education transformative on Syekh Nawawi’s perspektive can be an alternative solution to the problems of the state and education in particular. In fact, Islamic educational transformative is the accumulation of the process of transfer of knowledge, transfer of values, transfer of methodology and transformation. Integration of religion sciences (‘ulumuddin) and natural sciences or humanities sciences is a priority in Islamic education transformative. There is no dichotomy and scientific specialization. Ultimately, through this transformative Islamic education can produce output which has a religious personality and competence of science as well. The expectation is the realization of the scientific-religious generation. Become a religionist-scientific and a saintists-religionist.

Abstract

Choosing the best school is important for some people. the best school benchmark is a school that has a big name brand image in view of the majority of society. Lately more and more educational institutions are emerging, every institution is competing to improve the quality in order to win the competition. Schools that have a good image in the eyes of the public will win this competition. Therefore, brand image is an important thing that must be considered by education providers. This paper aims to determine the steps to form a brand image in Islamic Senior High School of Nurul Jadid Paiton Probolinggo as an effort to improve competitiveness. This study used a qualitative approach with the method of data mining in the form of observation, interview, and tracing of related documents.The results of this study indicate that there are several steps taken by Islamic Senior High School Of Nurul Jadid institution in forming brand image, which is institutional accreditation, inculcate good student behavior, improve student achievement, improve teacher quality and graduate quality, hold excellent activities, with alumni. These steps can improve competitiveness, with school accreditation, good graduate quality, student achievement, and student behavior have attracted the attention of the community to choose to continue their studies in Islamic Senior High School of Nurul Jadid, as well as being a challenge for other institutions.

Abstract

This article attempts to describe the "true tangle" between school policy at the level of idealism with the progress and commemoration of the competence of school leavers in the field of praxis in the field. This research takes place in SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Playen, Yogyakarta. Based on the evaluative analysis in the school showed that; 1) Generally, The formulation of school policy can be said to support the improvement of competency standards of graduate students SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Playen. The formulation of policy (policy making) is done through deliberation or work meeting of leaders and teachers. Judging from the form aktivnnya, then the policy is in the form of academic and non academic activities. 2) at the level of policy implementation, the policy implementers themselves come from the highest levels to the lowest levels such as head master, teachers, staffs, and students. Implementation is certainly through the process of communication and socialization with the target of school policy. the implementation of school policies on the way and the process of course encountered obstacles and challenges. The point that support the implementation of school programs are consistency of school residents, acceptance and participation of school residents and communication. While the obstacles and challenges of implementation of the policy include; lack of potential sources of schools; low student learning motivation; limited economic parent; and the low awareness of teachers. 3) Evaluation of school policy. As for those who act as evaluators of school policies are those who are involved in the formulation and implementing of school policies, especially principals and teachers.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the student perceptions of plagiarism and the reasons that led to plagiarism in the students’ assignments. The population of the study included the students of English Education Department at UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh, with 166 students randomly selected as the sample. Questionnaire was used as the instrument for collecting data. The data were then analyzed with the SPSS in order to obtain their descriptive statistics. The results of the study showed that there were various students’ perceptions about the notion of plagiarism and the underlying reasons for their plagiarism. It was generally understood that plagiarism wa the use of words/ideas of others recognized as one’s own. Further, the major causes of plagiarism in the assignments were due to lack of English language skills and lack of time management. In addition, the behaviors of lecturers and the university involvement in socializing the concept of plagiarism also became the causes for the higher proportion of academic dishonesty among the students. These findings are expected to be the input for the creation of campus policy so that academic integrity and better lecture system can be achieved in any university.

Abstract

Competency is a standard of ability required to describe both qualitative and quantitative qualifications of a person. It also underlies the execution of professional duties or technical skills. A person is declared competent in a particular area if he masters the skills related to his field of work. To carry out his duties, a counseling teacher at MAN Rukoh Banda Aceh must perform his job professionally so that the counseling guidance process works well. This research discusses the professional competencies that must be owned by a counseling teacher to solve the learning problems experienced by students at MAN Rukoh Banda Aceh. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The data is obtained from observation, interview, and documentation. The results showed that counseling teachers at MAN Rukoh have a relevant educational background. Eventually, they have professionally done their work and also responsibly solve student's problems. The counseling teachers at MAN Rukoh Banda Aceh provide individual services for students so that their learning problems can be solved well.

Abstract

English proficiency test is the most widely taken for many purposes. Most of people take TOEFL, IELTS, and global English as learning fields to achieve their learning purposes. However the score for these proficiency tests are low. Consequently, they need to find solution to increase the score, for instance using learning strategies. There are several language strategies can be used to help them to achieve it. This study focuses on identifying which strategies used by language learners for learning IELTS, TOEFL, and global English and the frequency of using the strategies. The study proposes two research questions, first, what are strategies mostly used by the language learners in learning IELTS, TOEFL, and global English? Second, how often do the learning strategies used by the learners? The study is conducted in descriptive statistics, collected the data through SILL questionnaires consist of 35 statements, and includes 27 respondents from Bandung, West Java. This study found that learners used the learning strategies to help them in learning language proficiency, however they used it instability and inconsistency. Overall, to achieve the learning purposes, learners are suggested to trigger themselves to use learning strategies in consistent and regularly.

Abstract

Observing the current condition of the Indonesian nation has led to a phenomenon that the country is being hit by the crisis in various aspects of life. Various forms of violation and offense grow and develop in daily life of the community, such as: corruption, collusion, nepotism, and drug (narcotics) and alcohol abuse, theft, robbery and prostitution. In this country, it also begins to emerge the tenet and behavior of radicalism that disturb the community and government. On the other side, nowadays is also faced with the clash and confusion of thought of ‘the contradiction between religion and the State’ embedded to the young generation (millennial generation). The various social problems described above occur due to the low quality of faith and caused the decline of morality and moral degradation of this nation. It needs a fundamental and accurate solution in facing those problems. Improving and rearranging the paradigm, system and orientation of Islamic education according to its framework can be the alternative solution to solve the problems. Islamic education should be a core in the national education curriculum, so that Islamic education will have a complete transformation in people life of this state. A comprehensive and systematic transformation of Islamic education can be done through the following stages: 1) Religious education should be the core in the national education curriculum, and the substance of religious teachings should not be disputed in nation’s life. 2) Religious education in schools and colleges/universities must be taught by qualified and professional teachers and lecturers, and 3) Implementation of religious education materials should fit the needs and age of learners.

Abstract

This research was conducted to analyze the student’s critical thinking in writing responses on Nicenet Internet Classroom Assistant (ICA) based on Anderson and Krathwohl theory. It is a qualitative research with content analysis method. The subject of this research was the document of students’ responses in online class Nicenet ICA in Communication Management subject that was conducted in semester seven in 2014, batch 2010 and 2011 in the Department of English Language Education of UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh. The result of this study suggested that participating in Nicenet ICA gave positive effects on students in increasing their critical thinking skill in writing. This can be seen through the final result that 92.30% of those documents represent the critical thinking ability in the highest level while the rest were in the medium. It can be inferred from this study that the use of Nicenet as a media of learning can promote and develop the students’ critical thinking skill.
