Abstract

Outsourcing applications have widely used and regarded as a primary strategic management tool by firms. However, particularly in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry, most companies have at least once declined from a renewing contract with the same service provider. There have not been any studies regarding risk management in a buyer-supplier relationship in multinational companies (MNCs) from developed countries operating in an emerging country, particularly in Indonesia. The purpose of this qualitative study is to find out how MNCs in the FMCG sector in Indonesia choose their suppliers, risk perceived, and how they manage their relationship with different suppliers to ensure their performance. Buyer's previous experience, time/cost pressure, and company's culture proved to influence companies in selecting suppliers. Key risks perceived by companies mainly regarding unperformed suppliers, supplier's opportunistic behaviour, and unstable economic/political condition. To ensure a supplier's performance, companies need to set different relationship positioning for each activity outsourced through a proper type of contract and aligned performance measurement. Moreover, a formal supplier rating has not found in all companies, let alone supplier development initiatives.

Abstract

In this paper we present several techniques for detecting simple defect on the texture. The simple defect means, that the defect can be detected via image histogram or via wavelet of the image histogram. Hill estimator is one of the techniques that we suggest to use to solve this problem, since it does not need estimate parameters for estimating the image density

Abstract

We enhanced DFSS Characterize and Optimize Phases to deal with multiple and functional response optimization. The enhancement basically starts with a development of functional meta-models of CAE outputs that are fast-to-compute and accurate enough within a certain design space. Having developed the multiple and functional meta-models, the influence of design variables to the functional responses are then obtained via visualization and sensitivity analysis based on Sobol's index. Multi-objective optimization is finally applied to search for design variable settings that give optimal functional responses. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Di artikel ini kita memperkaya fase-fase Characterize and Optimize dari design for six sigma (DFSS) methodology untuk bisa menyelesaikan rekayasa produk dan proses kompleks yang mengandung banyak respons fungsional.

Abstract

According to the survey to the wheelchair users in Surabaya, it is found that 70% of the respondents want to have activities inside or outside their home independently. Therefore, a wheelchair that can satisfy their requirements is on demand. In this research we used an integrated product development to design a wheelchair. We simulated the ergonomic design by a method so called RULA for static load 150 kg. This proposed wheelchair is an ergonomic wheelchair. It is a wheelchair, that satisfies the safety regulations. By using a joystick, a user can control the wheelchair to move forward and backward, to set the seat up and down as convenience as they want to. We hope that this wheelchair can help the physical handicaps to move more freely and have more activities than before. Abstract

Vehicle routing problem (VRP) is a model to determine an optimal routing plan for a fleet of homogeneous vehicles to serve a set customer which some operational constraints are satisfied. In most practical distribution problems, customer demands are served using heterogeneous fleet of vehicles. This kind of VRP is called Heterogeneous Vehicle Routing Problem (HVRP). HVRP has evolved into a rich research area because of its practical. There were many studies of rich extensions of the standar HVRP. This research aims to enrich the extentions of HVRP which is motivated by real case in one of pharmacy distribution company in Indonesia which is delivered multi-products to its 55 customers by allowing some vehicles which has small capacity to perform multi-trips. This problem is called Heterogeneous Vehicle Routing Problem with Multi-Trips and Multi-Products (HVRPMTMP).The mixed integer linear programming is developed based on four-index vehicle flow formulation. The model can be used generally in the same context of distribution problem. HVRPMTMP is generally NP-Hard problem, so the computational time using branch and bound in LINGO 16.0 is increasing exponentially by increasing the number of customers. Genetic algorithm is proposed to solve the real case. The result of the proposed GA can reduce the total cost from Rp 352540.6,- to Rp 180555,- or 48.78% from the current company policy.

Abstract

This article illustrates fixturing algorithm for determining clamping point of hole-based modular fixture. The proposed algorithm is based on the algorithm developed by Ariastuti et al. The previous algorithm could be applied for determining clamping point of dedicated or slot-based modular fixture but it can not be applied directly for hole-based modular fixture. Conversion of locators? coordinate and clamping coordinate into coincident baseplate-coordinates and an approach for modeling the magnitude and action point of equivalent forces are proposed. This algorithm is designed for fixturing prismatic workpart having machining feature(s) being processed on a vertical milling machine. The machining features are hole, blind hole, pocket, slot, blind slot, step, and blind step. Three hypothetical worksamples were analyzed using Ariastuti?s algorithm and this new algorithm. The result shows that both algorithms have the same properties in terms of feasible fixturing and unfeasible fixturing on a single setup. The new algorithm gives coordinates that coincide with holes of related baseplate in feasible fixturing. Forces equilibrium during machining is the only aspect being considered for feasibity analysis. Fixture elements? dimension, strength, and deformation have not been considered yet.

Abstract

Manufacturing systems that are often classified as push and pull often invite question: "How far do the differences between those two systems exist?" Many researches have been carried out but succinct answer to the above question is always difficult to reach. The difficulty roots from the variety of definition of the push and pull systems itself and also from the variety of complexity of a manufacturing system. This paper attempts to study the differences in performance between push and pull systems in a relatively simple model that consists of 4 serial processors with buffers located between these processors. Variations being modelled is on the setting of the system's load (high and low) and the buffer size with performance being measured include machine utilization, number of outputs and mean flow time of jobs. The approach used is simulation using ProModel software as the tool. From the experiments it can be derived that buffer size turns out to be a very critical factor in system performance. Moreover, it is also proved that when the buffer size is large, push and pull systems do not differ significantly.

Abstract

The garbage collection constitutes the main contributor in terms of the garbage cost management. Garbage collection scheduling model is a variable that determine cost center. Regarding to the existing condition, scheduling model could be designed concerning to the constraints, such as: amount of vehicles, transportation time, and transport system. This research develops a Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) model for determining the optimal route in garbage gathering collection. The VRP model utilizes intermediate facility. This model is called the Vehicle Routing Problem with Multiple Trips and Intermediate Facility (VRPMTIF). The VRPMTIF is solved by using a Sequential Insertion Algorithm. The algorithm applied to the determine garbage collections routes in Bandung with result as follows: 28 vehicles for West Bandung, 41 vehicles for Central Bandung, and 68 vehicles for East Bandung where there are different accomplishment time for each scenario. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia: Proses pengumpulan sampah merupakan kontributor terbesar dalam biaya pengelolaan sampah. Model ini disebut Vehicle Routing Problem with Multiple Trips and Intermediate Facility (VRPMTIF). Abstract

The resulting MINLP problem is very complex and finding the global optimum is a challenging task. Solving this problem can use two methods, namely deterministic and metaheuristic. Deterministic method requires enough knowledge to determine areas that can provide global optimum solution. This method sometime provide unconvergen solution. Another method is metaheuristic method that simple and promising global optimum solution without introducing any approximations or simplifying assumptions. This method works without influenced by the previous optimization results. One of metaheuristic algorithms is Genetic Algorithm (GA). In this paper, the GA will be used to solve the optimization of cleaning schedule of Heat Exchanger Network (HEN) in a refinery Crude Preheat Train (CPT). The results showed that efficiency of HEN 23% increased which can be translated in IDR 14.1 Billion of fuel saving. Metaheuristic algorithm always provide a solution at the end of optimization’s iteration and it can be run  continuesly in order to get more optimal solution.
