Abstract

This research is a cultural studies, which disscuss representation of Papuan ethnic identity in the adolescent drama series Diam-Diam Suka. The concept of postcolonial theory and John Fiske semiotic analysis “Television Codes” were used to show representation of Papuan ethnic identity that displayed by teks.The finding of this study showed that the mass media through text perpetuates the identity of Papua as a foolish, weird, and primitive one. This is done by text in several ways. First, the text emphasizes the distinction of Papuans against the majority trough appearance, cultural attributes, and the way of speech. Second, the text shows the unequal power relations between the majority-minority through setting and characterization. Third, the text attaches humor to Papuan characters through dialogue in drama series. Papuan identity is constructed under Western hegemony as well as placing Western consciousness as its center.

Abstract

The presence of an online mall website brings great consequences in public shopping habits. Lazada is one of the new means of consumption through a new media that offers a various easiness, which are visible as modern, practical, and efficient as management at a McDonald's fast food restaurant. McDonaldization theory from George Ritzer is used as a way to crack open the ideology and dimensions of McDonaldization and also its consequences. The results show that efficiency is not always free of charge. The principle of rationality just covers the risk of inefficiency in small amount, thus allowing more serious consequences such as dehumanization that leads to the minimization of humanitarian authenticity and homogenization that leads to technological dependence and loss of critical power.  Keywords: online mall, McDonaldization, George Ritzer, online shopping, e-commerce

Abstract

Although in 2014 the Magelang City Government has compiled a grand design for the development of city government telematics, but most of the stages of e-government application development are currently still focused on providing websites and information services only. In general, the objectives of this research are: (1) Analyzing the taxonomy of information culture of public organizations in the City Government of Magelang; (2) Identifying the driving and inhibiting factors of e-government-based public services in the City of Magelang and; (3) Preparing appropriate policy recommendations so that public services based on e-government in the City of Magelang can run more optimally. The approach used is descriptive quantitative with descriptive statistical analysis techniques. Research location in Magelang City Government. Data collection techniques through questionnaire surveys, documentation and observation. The level of information culture maturity in the City Government of Magelang is influenced by several types of culture, including technocratic utopianism, anarchy, feudalism, dictactorship and federalism. The most dominant information culture is dictactorship culture.Keywords: information culture, e-government, public service

Abstract

This research was conducted to examine and analyze the ways of communicating in a "social climber" group while in their social environment at Apartments Kalibata City, South Jakarta. This study uses qualitative methods with the type of discourse analysis research. The method used by researchers is a case study with observation and interviews as a method of data collection. In the end this study aims to provide an overview and understanding of the phenomenon of "social climber" and various reasons behind it. The results of the study showed that in their interactions, the Climber group used the media to convey their messages, in the form of verbal messages and non-verbal messages. Each message is chosen according to what they want to convey to group members and their social environment by showing their roles and impressions, namely being in the middle to upper social class. they aim to be "seen" coming from the upper middle class and they can be accepted by group members and the public in their social environmentKeywords: social_climbing, descriptive, lifestyle, social status_, social acceptance.

Abstract

The presence of technology and new media does not come from empty space. Development of technology as a process of interaction or discourse between technologist and its relation with social group. Biker and Pinch in The Social Construction of Facts and Asrtefacts: or How the Sociology and the Sociology of Technology might Benefit Each Other (1984) say, the state of technology is like science, that is, as social construction, its course depends on many social factors and relationships between social groups. Crowdfunding as a new technology and media are present from social construction. Crowdfunding leverages technology by engaging the public to fundraising to help (donate) people in need and fundrasing for a project or business unit, which is done online, be it based on websites and applications. So as to enable the wider community to access (fundraising or become funders) charity programs or business projects. Abstract

City branding strategy to strengthen is tourism, so that this effort can support the development of the, are indirectly can increase their own local revenue, that is why we need to understand the process in their entirety. Several areas in the province of East Java, such as: Banyuwangi, Lumajang, Ponorogo, Batu and Jember, can give a lesson in relation to the city branding to be relevant and according to potential as well as the construction positive image in accordance with a hoped-for goal. A method of qualitative diskriptif was used in the study, data collection technique through the results of the observation and a literature review. From the research result conducted by, obtained city branding strategy is conducted through a tagline and also make the Mascot, of main to support regional tourism promotion.

Abstract

Technology is a things that can not be separated from human life today. Technology is present as a medium of information and communication for human. Living in a digital world where technology is developing so rapidly gave a new technologies that make human activity more easy and faster. New media technologies created in society are inseparable from social constructions in societies where the technology is formed from human needs for new things that can help their daily activities. Traveloka as a form of social construction in new media technology would like to illustrate that the presence of Traveloka application as a new media technology has answered the human need for easy information about travel services. Traveloka application with all advances in technology provides a transportation information, hotels, entertainment, and information about tourist destinations. Abstract

Pengembangan pariwisata sangat penting bagi industri pariwisata. Saat ini minat wisatawan pada konsep wisata alam pedesaan (back to nature). Pengembangan desa wisata adalah salah satu pilihan wisata yang tepat selain itu pengembangan desa wisata ini menjadi solusi bagi permasalahn kemiskinan, pelestarian budaya, dan pelestarian lingkungan hidup. Indonesia umumnya dan magelang khususnya merupakan wilayah yang memiliki potensi wisata yang cukup memadai dan memiliki daya tarik yang cukup tinggi bagi wisatawan terlebih berada dikawasan candi Borobudur.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui minat wisatawan dengan adanya balkondes di desa-desa di sekitar wilayah Candi Borobudur dan untuk mengetahui perekonomian masyarakat sebelum dan sesudah adanya balkondes. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah balkondes Candirejo di Desa Candirejo Kabupaten Magelang dan desa wisata candirejo. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa balkondes mampu menarik wisatawan asing baik domestic maupun mancanegara yaitu sejumlah 80% wisatawan mancanegara dan 20% wisatawan domestic. Dengan adanya balkondes dan desa wisata Candirejo juga berpengaruh pada meningkatnya pendapatan masyarakat Desa Candirejo, Kabupaten Magelang.

Abstract

Dewan Perwakilan Rakya Daerah (DPRD) adalah lembaga legislatif yang ada di tingkat daerah yang memiliki tugas mengembangkan keterampilan kewarganegaraan dimasyarakat. Tidak hanya menjadi kepanjangan tangan dari partai politik saja, tapi juga memiliki tugas besar sebagai wakil masyarakat yang menyampaikan aspirasi rakyat. Penelitian ini bertujuan: (1)Mendeskripsikan Model komunikasi politik yang dilakukan oleh anggota DPRD Kabupaten Magelang dalam upaya penguasaan keterampilan kewarganegaraan (civic skills) masyarakat di Kabupaten Magelang. (2)Menguraikan tahapan  komunikasi politik anggota DPRD sebagai upaya penguasaan keterampilan kewarganegaraan (civic skills) masyarakat di Kabupaten Magelang. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian deskriptif.
