Abstract

The objective of this research was to understand comprehensively the identity of the main character in the novel "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel. It was a qualitative research with content analysis conducted in Jakarta, from June to August 2013. The data were collected through comprehensive reading to the novel, some relevant books, and articles review in internet. Then, it was analyzed through the psycho-analysis theory. Since this is a qualitative research and the researcher himself is the instrument, most of activities were conducted by the study of literature. It was done by tracing relevant data in novels which showed the developmental phases of the main character from childhood to his teenage in order to know his personality, conflicts, the factors which affect the search for identity, and the efforts made by the main character in his search of identity. Results of this research showed that the main character in the novel Life of Pi by Yann Martel is extrovert, intelligent, earnest and energetic. He is a devout adherent of three religions: Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam. He is also a lecturer at the University of Toronto, and an animal lover.

Abstract

The revolution of science starts with the revelation of Qur?an. Qur?an states about the relationship between God and the world of nature, so do the world of nature and the offspring of Prophet Adam. In the Qur?an, it is stated about Divine Name Ar-Rahman, the Most Merciful, which is viewed, has close relationship with nature. The encouragement in Qur?an will build some positive behaviors of human. Any information from Qur?an becomes precious materials to study, seek and think deeply. It is all about the evidence from the Qur?an. There are so many samples from the verses of the Qur?an that talk about science and knowledge.The aim of this article is to convey some messages from the Qur?an and from some of Islamic scholars. Various studies have been accomplished. Islamization of knowledge in all fields has close relationship with one?s understanding towards the Islamic belief, as Islam is a religion signifies on right-thinking, right-speaking, and right-doing. So the Islamization of knowledge means to protect Muslims from the knowledge that is contaminated, misleading and causes errors. It will lead to safety, kindness, justice, and the power of faith.

Abstract

Classroom interaction is described as a communication process between teacher and students that involves talk as a tool to achieve good communication. Talk is essential to students thinking and learning, and their productive engagement in classroom. This study will figure out TTT phenomenon. The aim of to the study is to explore kind of teacher talk used by English teachers and students? perception toward it. An English teacher and 33 junior high school students are the participants of the study. They are given a questionnaire that consist 15 statements. Observation and Interview are conducted to complete the data collection. The result shows that TTT is important in ELT classroom and students have positive positive perception toward it.

Abstract

The most important component of a language is the functional component, namely meaning creation. Advertisement is a product of marketing process where its process of communication is built interestingly and therefore it is also very interesting to observe the use of language in it. This study focuses on identifying gender ideology and image construction in printed advertisement. The method used is descriptive qualitative. The result shows that every text has a character and its own way in delivering the image of gender, and based on the text analysis, two categories of ideology which core the image of gender are finally revealed; they are sexist and women and men degrees.

Abstract

West (1994) states that needs analysis (NA) is what learners will be required to do with the foreign language in the target situation, and how learners might best master the target language during the period of training. There are a lot of studies that proved that NA has important role in the development of a curriculum. This study will try to discuss the importance of NA in curriculum development for ESL/EFL classroom. The history of curriculum development and its emergence in language teaching will be discussed. Some syllabuses will be explained from which ELT practitioners can have some pictures of materials and the learning process in ELT classrooms.

Abstract

In the world of education, Islamic School has become the most important concern for Muslim. The main objective of this study is to know that Islamic Integrated Schools in Indonesia are mostly keen to obtain knowledge from both religious subjects and modern subjects. The purpose of this study is to determine how is the students and graduation of Integrated Islamic Schools in the facing the world in the future but remains the basis of Islam. The data were analyzed from the books related with Muslim education and website of some Islamic articles in the form of Discourse Analysis.
