Abstract

This classroom action research was motivated by the existence of problems in the learning process of English, especially Listening learning. The purpose of this study was to describe the procedure for teaching English vocabulary to grade 2 elementary school students using a total physical response and to identify the advantages of using TPR in teaching English vocabulary. Based on the reality in the field, the writer found that in the process of learning English, especially listening to learning, students had difficulty using English. This classroom action research was conducted at SD Negeri 2 Mayung, Cirebon Regency. The research subjects were class II students, as many as 24 people consisting of 13 boys and 11 girls. In analyzing the data, the writer used qualitative descriptive methods and simple quantitative measurements to find the research results. The data analysis showed that there was a significant difference in student achievement in the pre-test and post-test. Student achievement on the post-test (74.07%) was higher than that pre-test (37.07%). Average student achievement in the first cycle was 18.47% and 55.5% in the second cycle. The main factor that influenced this increase was the student's interest in the teaching and learning process through the Total Physical Response. Based on these data, the authors conclude that teaching English vocabulary with TPR is very beneficial for students in order to facilitate them in learning English vocabulary. TPR is recommended for teaching English vocabulary to teachers.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the existence of problems in Civics learning in elementary schools, especially in class V. Civics learning in elementary schools tends to be conventional. Students are only instructed by the teacher to take notes and memorize their notes. In addition, Civics learning does not raise awareness of the value of democracy in students so that students do not like to respect people's opinions, and do not provide opportunities for people to express opinions in joint decision making. This study aims to determine the steps of Civics learning by using VCT role playing, awareness of democratic values from within students after learning Civics using VCT role playing, and knowing student learning outcomes in Civics learning using VCT role playing. From the resulting data, it shows that there is an increase in the Civics learning process by 59.4%. In addition, learning outcomes have also increased, in cycle I the average student learning outcomes were only 56.68, cycle II the average student learning outcomes 76.37 , while in cycle III it reached an average number of 85.15. From the improvement of the process and learning outcomes, it can be concluded that the VCT role playing learning model can increase awareness of the value of democracy in students and student learning outcomes in Civics learning on the topic of joint decisions.

Abstract

The contextual learning model is a learning concept that helps teachers link the material being taught with students' real-world situations and encourages students to make connections between their knowledge and its application in their lives. This research method refers to the model of Kemmis and Mc. Taggart, namely classroom action research with a series of steps starting from planning, action, observation and reflection. The data collection technique was carried out using observation guidelines, field notes, interview sheets, process assessment tables, and evaluation sheets (LKS). The data obtained were analyzed and reflected using qualitative descriptive methods. The findings in this study, namely the use of contextual learning models in learning natural resources, get a pretty good impression and response from students. Students' understanding and activities also increase in each cycle. This can be seen from the enthusiasm of students in answering questions from the teacher. In group discussion activities students actively cooperate, exchange ideas, explain each other (peer tutors), support each other and divide tasks into groups. Student learning outcomes in learning natural resources using a contextual approach have increased quite well. The average score of the individual students from each cycle continued to increase. The average value of the first cycle was 67.04, the average value of the second cycle was 72.95, and the average value of the third cycle was 79.08. The value acquisition illustrates that students' understanding of the material using a contextual approach is quite even and successful.
