Abstract

Tarakan waters have geographical and landscape that supported a wealth of abundant and diverse fish. One of the natural resources on the Tarakan Island is Nomei fish. This fish is known by local names of Pepija or Lembe-Lembe. Nomei fish catch has decreased since 2009. There has been no real effort in determining the fish conservation strategies. Data on Nomei taxonomy is still lacking, so far limited research has been conducted only on bio ecology aspect. The purposed of this study was to determine the taxonomic status of Nomei fish from Tarakan based on 16S rRNA gene sequences and determine relationship with closely related species. Genetic data collection were done by taking two individual pectoral fin from each fish from Amal and Juata waters. Total DNA isolated using Roche KIT with some modifications. 16S rRNA gene amplification were done by using a universal primer. Alignment results showed that there were several automorfi nucleotide characters distinguishing of this genus. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequences with consistency of phylogenetic topology is generated, it can be concluded that Nomei fish from Amal and Juata included in Harpodon genus, species Harpodon nehereus. This is consistent with the description of morphological characters were Harpodon nehereus. It is also strengthened by divergent sequences of Harpodon sp. Amal 1 and Harpodon sp. Amal 2 (0%); while Harpodon sp. Juata 1 and Harpodon sp. Juata 2 (0%). Keywords : taxonomic status, Nomei fish, 16S rRNA gene, conservation

Abstract

Vibriosis disease Vibrio harveyi often drops Penaeus monodon production on the traditional coastal ponds of North Kalimantan. The purpose of this study was to find out the active compound extract of Sonneratia alba fruit inhibiting the infection of Vibrio harveyi, which was tested on the larvae of Penaeus monodon in post larvae 12 through the bioerichment of natural feed Artemia salina. This study used an experimental method performed with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) of 4 treatments and 3 replications. The results showed mangrove fruit extracts containing alkaloids, phenol hydroquinone, flavonoids, saponins, steroids and tannins. Artemia salina bioenrichment succeeded in increasing the survival of Penaeus monodon larvae 78.33% in treatment III (20 ppm). The results of water quality measurements indicate the range at the normal limit for the life of the Penaeus monodon larvae. Keywords : Penaeus monodon, Artemia salina, Vibrio harveyi, Extract Sonneratia alba

Abstract

Nowadays we were facing to the global warming which is causing climate changes. Global warming also promote by environmental degradation. Increment of human population and development on industrial realm are the main cause of environmental degradation. Wetland is one of environmental bufferwhich could enhance the environmental stress. Doing the wetland restoration is an effort to enhance ecological degradation. In this paper were discusses about wetland definition, functions, wetland restoration, effect of restoration and also some study cases of wetland restoration published by some researcher. Tidal Wetland Restoration itself could be defined as an actions taken in a converted or degraded natural wetland that result in the reestablishment of ecological processes, functions, and biotic/abiotic linkages and lead to a persistent, resilient system integrated within its landscape (Lewis, 1989). It must expect restoration could bring the better effluence to the ecology, however some time it’s not just happen like ideally. Some of the restoration activity could promote and lead the ecological degradation in the neighbor habitat from which restoration activity was conducted. Therefore to enhance the sustainability, restoration and good management should be applied in order and in good monitoring.  Keywords :  wetland, ecological, restoration, sustainability.

Abstract

Phytoplankton is a biological parameter that can be used as an indicator to evaluate the quality and level of fertility of a water. Changes in water quality as a result of the large load of nutrients entering the Ciliwung River will affect the life of phytoplankton. This study aims to see the comparative index of diversity (H ') and the Dominant Index (D) of phytoplankton in Ciliwung River from upstream to downstream. The study was conducted from December 2016 to February 2017 from upstream to downstream of the Ciliwung River. From the index analysis of diversity and index of dominance, there was a significant difference, where the downward index of diversity (H ') of phytoplankton was lower, ranged between 1,21 and 2,6 (the index of diversity ranging from low to medium).  Otherwise, the dominance index showed the opposite result. The more downstream the dominance index is higher than the upstream, ranged between 0,09 and 0,68. Thus the index of diversity and the index of phytoplankton dominance has a relationship inversely. Differences of diversity index and dominance index in upstream to downstream poses an imbalance of ecosystem in Ciliwung River.             Keywords: Ciliwung, diversity index, Dominant Index, Phytoplankton
