Abstract

The absence of legal regulation in fishing activities has brought Indonesian waters to a serious degradation, especially inthe population of game fish. The most reasonable solution to this problem is performing Catch and Release (CnR).However, very little has been explored regarding the activity of fishing and CnR in Indonesia. This study aims toidentify masculinity traits in sportfishing as a masculine act. Furthermore, the result will hopefully be useful indesigning an effective campaign for CnR. This study employs qualitative method to discover how sportfishing isproduced and consumed, formulate the meaning of sportfishing to Indonesian anglers, and identify masculinity traits inthe enactment and involvement of this activity. The study concludes that sportfishing is the new hegemonic masculinity, replacing the previous conventional fishing. It is a masculine bloc that inherits classic masculine traits and combinesthem with aspects of femininity, resulting in a new adaptive model of masculinity that sustains the patriarchaldominance toward subordinate masculinity and women

Abstract

Abstract

Transgender and religion have normatively been considered incompatible in contemporary Indonesia. Major religions commonly do not admit the discourse of transgender and it does happen in Surabaya. The discrimination and stigma attached to them have made them avoid the religious places. It is the notionhappening in most of transgender because they are shy and felt that they did not belong to it. Interestingly, there were two religious affiliations created and addressed for transgender in Surabaya: Pengajian Al-Ikhlas (for Moslems) and Persekutuan Doa Hidup Damai dan Kudus (for Christians). By the time this thesis was finished, the two religious organizations have already grown up for more than ten years and still exist and keep developing. The theory used in this thesis was Pierre Bourdieu’s Habitus, Field, and Capital. It was used to analyse how those two affiliations were built and developed. The method used was qualitative method by using ethnographic research. The primary data used were the data from the interviews and participatory observation; while the secondary data were from documents such as newspapers and magazines. The results of this thesis indicated that the Habitus owned and internalized by the owner of these affiliations were the major reason on why these affiliations were grown and developed. It was also facilitated by the field in Surabaya that made themcomfortable. Furthermore, capital was also noted to be the one that keeps the affiliations running. The attendants were having extra care within their death, extra cash, socialization, and also the most important was being recognized as citizens.

Those are Arabians beating in Sydney coast by Neo-Nazi, discrimination against Muslim minorityand Africans by police in Victoria, and also Muslim demonstration because of Muhammad humiliation. The study revealed that “White Australia Policy” still can not completely be eliminated. Abstract

The presence of women in same-sex sexual trend in Indonesia is considered unnatural. The actor suffered the injustice of the treatment. Condition that was not expected by the women does not make them desperate but appear to be driving their own to declare independence in the community generally. The research follows the lives of several lesbian experiences tells the respondent. Work and have their own income is the way to survive in the big city and at the same time strengthening their identity is still shrouded. A gender and sexual identity collide and the real personalities of women who never consciously chosen from the beginning. But the pressures and demands of life that makes them exist until now. Authors conducted a simple ethnographic approach was very useful in order to obtain accurate data. The research was conducted in Surabaya and done solely to open our eyes wider to the presence of women with different sexual orientation than most of us. It must be admitted some use of key terms in the analysis may be not too precise, perhaps even often confused as a synonym. Gender identity, sexual-biological, sexual orientation. The third term is still like a new food menu, let alone trying to comment on taste. However, the authors sought to understand this discourse as closely as possible, be descriptive, with the hope of understanding themselves become better writers and story-telling flow, and thus contribute to the realm of gender and sexuality, no matter how small.
