Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menjelaskan representasi keislaman dalam kelompok musik Sabyan Gambus. Penelitian ini membahas bagaimana Islam direpresentasikan oleh Sabyan Gambus menggunakan teori Sirkuit Kebudayaan (Circuit of Culture) Stuart Hall. Teori tersebut terdiri dari beberapa aspek, yaitu produksi, konsumsi, regulasi, identitas, dan representasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dalam menjelasakan fenomena kebudayaan. Sebagai data, penelitian ini menggunakan video-video performance Sabyan Gambus di Youtube. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kehadiran Sabyan Gambus di Youtube menandai pergeseran penting dari media yang dipakai budaya pop Islam untuk berproduksi. Kemudian, identitas keislaman Sabyan Gambus dapat dilihat melalui sejarah musik gambus di Indonesia, performativitas mereka dan estetika musik mereka. Sabyan juga menunjukkan bahwa identitas Islam yang melekat mengalami tarik menarik dengan konteks sosio-budaya Indonesia.

Abstract

Traditional music in Central Thai society is a rich piece of culture that uncovers much about day to day existence in the society. This study investigates the factors contributing to the music?s declining appeal to the local people. It focuses on  customary music in five focal regions of Thailand. In collecting the data, I combined survey, interviews, and observation. The analysis shows that the popularity and appeal of customary music in Central Thailand is declining. The decline is partly caused by the wide impacts of Western cultures and music on Thai society.  Moreover, there are not many youngsters who are keen on preserving the existence of the traditional music. This is coupled with the absence of the government in supporting the survival of the music. It is pity as the folk music is very much in tune with the everyday life of  Central Thai society. However, in order to survive it requires modernization and adaptation with the changing dynamics of the society.

Abstract

The aims of this study is discover how this novel constructs Sayuri as a Geisha. In order to reach that results, this study figured out the functions of the narrative and connected it into seven spheres of action. Hence, in order to analysis the data, this study used qualitative method which all of the data had to be noted, identified, and then can be explained. This study used the theory of Vladimir Propp in order to figure the narrative structure out of the novel itself. Propp provided such tools to analyze the data. There are twelve functions out from thirty one found in this study: absentation, violation, trickery, mediation, departure, the first function of donor, branding, victory, unrecognized arrived, recognition, exposure, and wedding. The researcher figured out seven spheres of action? which are in the following list: The Hero, The Villain, The Donor, The Helper, and The False Hero. Sayuri here is depicted as object of sexuality for man. Almost all of men subdued over her.

Abstract

Poetry is one of the fundamentals in literature. It expresses meaning through words and communicates deeper ideas within it. Robert Frost was one of the most prominent poets of all time. His work Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening was one of his greatest work, it revolves around the beauty of a forest in the winter. On the surface, it may look like a simple straightforward poem; however, it contains a deeper underlying meaning. Semiotics of Poetry written by Riffaterre will be essential in this paper to dissect the poem. There are various concepts that will be applied in the dissecting the poem like indirection, heuristic and hermeneutics reading, matrix, model, variants, and hypogram. This paper seeks to find the deeper understanding of the poem rather than just a surface understanding of it.

Abstract

The transition era between the New Order Era to the Reformation Era in Indonesia in 1998 became one of the popular themes for Indonesian writers. One of the works entitled Tembok Pak Rambo inserted elements of historical facts that occurred in Indonesia. The representation of the obscurity of the new order in this short story cannot be read only with heuristic readings, therefore a theory is needed to explore more profound the significance of the story. This paper utilizes the intertextuality approach in dismantling the veiled meanings in the story. The results showed that the short story represents two Indonesian leaders in the era of the new order transition to the reform era. This representation appears when aligned with a book called The Long Way of Indonesia Towards Democracy written by B. J. Habibie. Moreover, the short story titled Tembok Pak Rambo is not just about the hegemony between the ruler to his subordinates, but how the Indonesian writers were trying to criticism on the government and the historical facts that happened in 1998.
