Abstract

This study aims to determine the type of Hemerocallis fulva L. pollen, pollen viability and growth after storage at 280C, 40C, -200C, -800C temperature for 0-8 weeks. The study was conducted from January - March 2010. Pollen samples were taken from UPT. Botanical Gardens Plant Conservation 'Eka Karya’ Bali. Pollen storage and observations was carried out at the Laboratory of Plant Biotechnology and Development Structure, Biology Department, Faculty of Science, Udayana University. Viability test were conducted using hanging drop media and agar media with GA3. The results showed that type of Hemerocallis fulva L. pollen were: monosulkat, Prolate spheroiodal, (54.25 X 47.47), P/E: 1.14, Zono, colpate, reticulate. Fresh pollen viability on hanging drop media was 8.33%, decreased to 4% after storage at 4°C for one week and -20°C for 5 weeks. Whereas on agar media, control pollen has viability of 3.17% and increased at -20°C to become 11.67%. Mature pollen can be observed at the level of uninukleat, binukleat, and trinukleat. The development of pollen with the media hanging drop on the control has a long reed 115.94 ?m and length increased at 4 ° C with storage duration ie 256.39 weeks to 1 ?m, whereas on an agar medium + GA3 to control reed 149.82 ?m in length and at 28 ° C, 4 ° C, -20 ° C and -80 ° C respectively 94.73 ?m; 142.1 ?m; 95.53 ?m; 118.67 ?m at 1 week storage time.

Abstract

Human-elephant conflict is one of main issues in wildlife conservation. The trigger of human-elephant conflict is forest convertion in Tesso Nilo National Park. A study about characteristic of human elephant conflict has been conducted from March until April 2016 in some area of the park including Lubuk Kembang Bunga and Air Hitam villages, Riau Province, Indonesia. This study aimed to describe the characteristics of dispute area have been and land use in the park. A survey and interview have been conducted to 30 local inhibitans. Lubuk Kembang Bunga and Air hitam villageswere located near by the elephant forest habitat (0-10 km) with elevation 0f 200-100 m above the sea level. The area mostly flat and close to rivers. The elephant attack palm oil and rubber plantation. Historical change of land use at Tesso Nilo National Park from 2004 to 2016 has proved to damaged the elephant habitat, while the elephants come to the plantation where they had ranged in the past time.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of deforestation on biodiversity loss in Indonesia. Firstly author presented information about deforestation trends that spread across Indonesia. And presented information about forest fires that triggered off the continuous deforestation and occurred one after another throughout the year. The collected data showed deforestation and forest fires have occurred since 1960 to 2015, and deforestation and forest fires implicated in the extinction of species diversity, genetics, and ecosystems that spreads from Sunda region to Sahul region.  Author used descriptive regulation and legislation methods, used literature approach, as well as arranged with descriptive and interpretational form in papers. From the results of this study author concluded that deforestation rate implicates in forest fires that occur continuously throughout the year and can not be inevitable possibility of extinction of biodiversity spread across Indonesia.

Abstract

Research this it directions for knowing type tuju disease, plants type, parts of plant for tuju disease in Taro Village, District Tegallalang, Regency Gianyar. This Research was held at 14 Banjar with every single one of banjar taken by 5 heads of family, until the sample of research become to 70 head of families. The method used in research this is snowball sampling and purposive sampling. Based on the results of the research indicated 6 type of tuju disease at Taro village. Type of tuju disease that I found is tuju ayan, tuju desti, tuju moro, tuju gatal, tuju ucing-ucing, and tuju wind. Type herbs found as many as 38 species plants that cover 22 families, with the most widely from family Zingiberaceae (7 species). Part plants used as ingredients boreh is stem, flower, fruit, rhizome, tuber, leaf, skin stem, root and seeds. Most part used is part leaves.

Abstract

Di hutan Sumatera Barat terdapat tiga jenis Rafflesia, salah satunya merupakan jenis endemik yaitu Rafflesia gadutensis Meijer. Jenis ini pertama kali ditemukan oleh Khorthals pada tahun 1834, tetapi tidak dipublikasikan. Penelitian Meijer (1984), R. gadutensis ditemukan di daerah Rimbo Datar, Padang Tinggi, Ulu Gadut, Batu Berjulang dan juga di Taman Hutan Raya (TAHURA) Dr. Muhammad Hatta kota Padang (Zuhud et al., 1998; Nais, 2001). Pnelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kondisi populasi dan mengidentifikasi komunitas tumbuhan yang mendukung kehidupan R. gadutensis di TAHURA Dr. M. Hatta Kota Padang. Pengambilan data dilaksanakan di Kawasan Hutan TAHURA Dr. M. Hatta Kota Padang pada bulan Februari sampai April tahun 2009) Pengolahan data dilakukan di Laboratorium Ekologi Tumbuhan dan Herbarium Jurusan Biologi, FMIPA Universitas Andalas. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan dengan cara survey langsung ke lapangan dengan menggunakan metoda “Nested Plot Technique”. Pengolahan data menggunakan rumus analisa vegetasi Cox. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah ditemukan keberadaan R. gadutensis berupa kuncup hidup sebanyak 2 individu dan bunga busuk setelah mekar sebanyak 1 individu dan hasil identifikasi terhadap tumbuhan inangnya diketahui merupakan jenis Tetrastigma lanceolarium (Roxb) Planch. Komunitas tumbuhan terdiri dari 274 individu yang termasuk kedalam 88 jenis dan 35 famili, yang terdiri dari kelompok vegetasi pohon (38 jenis; 17 famili), vegetasi belta (23 jenis; 16 famili), dan vegetasi dasar (45 jenis; 28 famili). Nilai penting tertinggi untuk kelompok vegetasi pohon adalah Litsea citrata BL. (18,37%) dan Mallotus philippinensis Muell. Arg (17,50%). Vegetasi belta adalah Tetrastigma lanceolarium (Roxb) Planch. (29,32%) dan M. philippinensis (28,08%). Vegetasi Dasar adalah Schismatoglottis calyptrata Z. et. M. (32,73%) dan Cyrtandra pendula Bl (15,14%).

Abstract

Research on the habitat preferrence by Changeable hawk-eagle (Nisaetus cirrhatus) (CHE), Crested serpent-eagle (Spilornis cheela) (CSE), and White bellied sea-eagle (Haliaeetus leucogaster) (WSE) was conducted at Nature Recreation Park of Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan and Surrounding area between February and July, 2016. Data collection was conducted through field observation using the “look down method” and the “look up method” combined with placement of observation points. Data collection was analysed by principle component analisys (PCA) method. Research results related to preferenced habitat were as follows: (1) the CHE prefered fragmented forest, secondary forest, and cultivated forest types habitat. (2) The CSE prefered habitat types of farming land, residence, and sosial forest. (3) The WSE prefered just one habitat type, that was the wet land habitat type. Abstract

Dendrobium heterocarpum Lindl. is a native orchid in Indonesia. Its population continue to decline due to unsustainable exploitation. One solution to increase its population is via in vitro technique propagation. This research aimed to determine effect of hormone addition (Zeatin and NAA) to induce shoot multiplication of D. heterocarpum Lindl. grown in Murashige and Skoog (MS) basic medium. The research was conducted in Tissue Culture Laboratory, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Science, Udayana University from November 2015 until March 2016. The experiment employed Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 20 combinations of treatments, with three replicates each treatment. The treatment werer addition of Zeatin and NAA, with five concentrations of Zeatin (0, 0.1, 0,5, sweet corn and hybrids corn as the natural Zeatin); four NAA concentrations (0, 0.05, 0.1 and 0.5). Variable recorded include such as the number of shoots, roots and explant’s vigor. The quantitative data which include number of leaves and shoots after 12 weeks, were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA); and if significantly different, tested further using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5% level. Z5N3 medium revealed significantly different on amount of leaves and shoot height and also the best medium on amount of roots. Best hormone combination that can induce multiplication of new shoots are medium Z4N3 and Z5N1.

Abstract

Lembah Anai and Rimbo Panti nature reverse forest were conservation area that supppsed getting invacived by Langkap (Arenga obtusifolia Mart.). Since Langkap has tendency to invaded this conservation area so it is necessary to do a research about species of invasive for density of Langkap in Lembah Anai and Rimbo Panti nature reverse area. The aim this study was to determine of characteristic reproductive, dispersal and density of Langkap in two populations. Collecting sample was used quadrat method. For the density of A. obtusifolia Mart. in Cagar Alam Rimbo Panti higher than in Cagar Alam. Lembah Anai. This is because the vegetation in Cagar Alam Rimbo Panti slightly so that A. obtusifolia Mart. more dominating the area. Abstract

Penelitian tentang studi jamur genera Polyporus liar (Cendawan Elang) yang bisa dikonsumsi telah dilaksanakan di Kecamatan Kayu Aro Barat, Kabupaten Kerinci dengan metode survei yang dianalisis secara deskriptif. Sampel dikoleksi secara purposive. Jamur liar konsumsi dengan nama lokal "Cendawan Elang" merupakan salah satu jamur dari genus Polyporus. Jamur ini hidup saprofit pada tumbuhan Ficus racemosa dan Alstonia scholaris yang telah mati dan lapuk dengan pH 4,78-5,03 pada suhu 16-28oC dan kelembaban udara 66-97% di ketinggian 1625-1853 mdpl.

Abstract

Candidacies in female reproductive tract are mainly caused by Candida albicans. This infection often causes serious problems, particularly on their reproductive tract (genital part). Until recently, control of this infection has relied on the use of antibiotics. However due to numerous bad side effects of antibiotics, lactic acid bacteria have been proposed as an alternative method to control the growth of Candida albicans. Therefore, this research was aimed to isolate, screen, and characterize lactic acid bacterial isolates (LAB) antagonistic against Candida albicans (the causative agent of candidacies infection in reproductive tract of human). LABs were isolated from various fermented foods, such as tape ketan and kimchi. Isolation of LABs was conducted by applying dilution and spread plate method on MRS agar medium supplemented with BCP indicator to distinguish LABs from non acid-producing bacteria. Colonies with indication to produce acid were screened for antagonistic activity against C. albicans on MRS agar and followed by characterization of those isolates (Gram stain, catalase production test, oxydase production, gas production test, resistance test to low pH conditions and to high level of NaDC (sodium deoxicolic), and test for ability to convert colic acid (CA) into deoxicolic acid (DCA)). The results showed that 46 LAB isolates were successfully isolated from samples of tape ketan and kimchi. Among those, 7 isolates showed antagonistic activity against C. albicans in in vitro tests. All these 7 candidates were also found to be resistance to low pH conditions (up to pH 2) and to high level of NaDC (up to 0.6 mM). Four most potential isolates were further testes for ability to convert colic acid into deoxycolic acid and none showed positive result, indicating that they all showed initial potential and safe for future human probiotic development (especially to be used to treat patients infected by C. albicans).
