Abstract

Propionibacterium acne plays a role in causing zits because there are forming blackheads and the inflammation stimulated by bacterial metabolic products. Acne treatment is usually treated by antibiotic which can kill the bacteria like tetracycline and erythromycin. The use of antibiotic in a long term can cause resistance, organ damage and hypersensitivity reactions so that it needs other antibiotics. The research aimed to find out the effectiveness of the combination of papaya leaf extract and sweet orange peel compared to single extract to inhibit the bacterial growth. The extraction was performed by ethanol 96%; the extraction result was the yield of papaya leaf 14.4% and sweet orange peel 19.4%; the total ash content of papaya leaf extract was 8% and sweet orange peel of 10%. The phytochemical screening of papaya leaf extract and sweet orange peel contained positively flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, and tannin. The antibacterial activity of average inhibition zone diameter on the ratio of papaya leaf extract and orange peel extract (2 : 2) was 7.15 mm; ratio of 1 : 3 was 10.08 mm; ratio of  3 : 1 was 5.58 mm; ratio of 4 : 0 was 5.41 mm and ratio of 0 : 4 was 7.41 mm.  The result of One Way ANOVA described that the average of inhibition zone diameter in each treatment had significantly difference (p<0.05). The result of the advanced test, LSD (Least Significance Different), showed that the comparison of inhibition zone diameter between papaya leaf extract and orange peel extract was 1 : 3, compared to all group had a real difference (p<0.05). Based on the result, it can be concluded that the ratio was more effective to inhibit the activity of Propionibacterium acne than another solution test both single and combination.Keyword : Papaya leaf, Sweet orange peel, Combination, Acne, Propionibacterium acnes

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a health problem with a high prevalence rate in Indonesia. One of the causes of the high prevalence and worsening of the prognosis of DM is the consumption of inappropriate foods (especially high-calorie foods). Psidium guajava Linn (guava) and Moringa oleivera Lamk (moringa) plants for Indonesian people are generally not a concern. Guava and Moringa have benefits used for antimicrobial and lowering blood glucose. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Psidium guajava Linn and Moringa oleivera Lamk on the behavior of mice induced by type 2 diabetes and to find an alternative treatment for diabetes mellitus that is cheap and safe. The research method uses an experimental laboratory with cross sectional design. Experimental animals (mice) type 2 DM induced nicotinamide injection 230 mg / kg BW and streptozotosin 65 mg / kg body weight. A total of 30 male Balb-C strain mice aged 2 months were divided into 6 groups: healthy controls, negative controls and treatment groups were given Psidium guajava L. and Moringa oleivera L. extracts. The results of fasting blood glucose levels in mice after being given extract therapy with consecutive concentrations of 5%, 10%, 20%, 40% respectively 107.94 mg / dL; 100.68 mg / dL; 80.98 mg / dL; 94.46 mg / dL and fasting blood glucose levels in the negative control group were 227.18 mg / dL. The treatment of Moringa oleivera L. and Psidium guajavana L. leaves extract affected the decrease in fasting blood glucose of DM type 2 mice; 2) The best decrease was shown by Moringa oleivera L. and Psidium guajavanaL. leaf extract with a concentration of 20% indicated by the Sig. 0,000 <0.05

Abstract

Hyperuresemia is an elevated level of uric acid in the blood above normal. Allopurinol is a drug that is often used to treat hyperuresemia, but at high levels it can cause various side effects, one of which is hepatotoxic. Giving galangal rhizome extract combination which has been proven as a hepatoprotector and antihyperuresemia, is expected to reduce the side effects of allopurinol and provide a synergistic effect in reducing uric acid levels in the blood. This study used Group I which gave a negative suspension which was given a 0.5% Na CMC suspension; Kempok II was given allopurinol 10 mg / kg BW; Group III was given galangal rhizome extract at a dose of 9.1 mg / 20 g BW and group IV was given a combination of galangal rhizome extract dose of 4.55 mg / 20 g BW and allopurinol 5 mg / kg BW. The results of measurement of uric acid levels in the blood showed decreased levels of uric acid in the blood of the negative control group, allopurinol, galangal, and a combined combination - contributing were 6.48 mg / dl; 30mg / dl; 30.96 mg / dl; and 59.52mg / dl. The post hoc test results showed a decrease in the levels of uric acid in the combined blood and the single group showed a difference, this showed a synergistic effect of the administration of a combination of allopurinol and galangal extract. Abstract

Hyperuricemicis as an abnormally elevated uric acid level in the blood.Gnetumgnemon, locally known as Melinjo, is one of the Indonesian indigenous plantswhichcan be an alternative source of allopurinol. The peels of Gnetumgnemon, usually be wasted,contains red anthocyanin pigments possessing antioxidant activity owing toits potential for the inactivation of free radicals and peroxyls. However, the anthocyanin will chemically result incompound instability and is easily degraded during the period ofstorage. Encapsulation remains as one of the eminent formulation techniques usedto protect the active pharmaceutical compound through coating ofmainingredient with polymer forming smallersize of particles within micro tonano.This study was aimed at determining the Gnetumgnemonpeel extract in microencapsulated form in inducing antihyperuricemic activity. The male Wistar-strain rats wereused as subjects,groupedinto fivedifferent feeding treatments, i.e. negative group (carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC) Na 0.5%), positive group (allopurinol 12.6 mg/kg BM), andthree doses groups(i.e. 100 mg/kgBM, 200 mg/kg BM, dose group 300 mg/kg BM). Uric acid levels were initially assessed for each group, then every test-animals werefedwith a dose of 300mg/kg BM of potassium oxonate intraperitoneally,and 2.5 mL of chicken liver juiceorally. An hour interval was given for the uric acid levels measurement for each group. The results showed an increase in uric acid levels after the subjectswere treated accordingly with potassium oxonate 300mg/kg BM and 2.5 mL chicken liver juice. At the hour-2, there was a decrease in uric acid levels but showingno significant difference in everygroup (p> 0.05). Abstract

One of the bacteria that causes acne is Propionibacterium acnes. Plants that are commonly used to treat zits are leaves of starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L), but their use is not so optimal, so a more practical formula needs to be developed. Face toner is one of the facial treatments that can help close the pores again. The purpose of this study was to determine the inhibitory power of the formulation of face toner preparation of starfruit leaf extract with a concentration of 1,25%, 2,5%, 5%, dan 10% towards the growth of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. This study was an experimental laboratory using a disc diffusion method. Positive controls used were clindamycin a face toner of lime extract (commercial), while the negative controls used by sterile aqua dest. The test results of the formulation of face toner preparations for starfruit leaf extract have inhibitory effect on the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes, at concentration of 1,25% with an average diameter of 18,3 mm, a concentration of 2,5% with an average diameter of 18,6 mm, a concentration of 5% with an average diameter of 20,56 mm, and a concentration of 1,25% with an average diameter of 24,7 mm. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the formulation of face toner extract of starfruit leaf extract has a zone of inhibition against Propionibacterium acnes with strong inhibitory response at concentrations (1.25% and 2.5%) and very strong at concentrations (5% and 10 %).Keyword : Inhibition, Starfruit leaf extract (Averrhoa bilimbi L), Disc                   Diffusion, Face toner, Propionibacterium acnes

Abstract

Soothing gel merupakan kosmetika yang banyak digemari oleh masyarakat yang berfungsi untuk mengatasi kulit kering. Sediaan ini mengandung bahan aktif dengan konsentrasi tinggi dalam formula gel yang dianggap mampu melembabkan kulit. Bahan aktif terdiri dari lidah buaya (Aloe vera L.) dan buah naga (Hylocereus polyrhizus (Weber) Britton&Rose) dengan konsentrasi total Formula I 85% dan Formula II 95%. Penelitian ini bertujuan menguji sifat fisik sediaan soothing gel dan iritasi akut dermal kelinci (Lepus Sp.). Metode penelitian ini meliputi pengujian sifat fisik gel yaitu, organoleptik, homogenitas, pH, daya sebar, daya lekat, viskositas. dan uji iritasi akut dermal. Analisa data statistik dengan SPSS 24.0. Hasil skrining bahan aktif lidah buaya positif mengandung alkaloid, fenolik, flavonoid dan saponin. Sedangkan sari buah naga positif mengandung alkaloid, fenolik, antosian, flavonoid dan terpenoid. Sediaan memiliki bau khas buah naga, langu, warna magenta tua khas warna buah naga. Kedua formula homogen dengan pH pada formula I dan II (5,3 dan 5.9), daya sebar 5,7cm dan 5,8cm, daya lekat 3,8 detik dan 2detik, viskositas 281 cP dan 142 cP. Sedangkan pada uji iritasi akut dermal diperoleh rerata nilai 0,3. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa daya lekat dan viskositas sediaan tidak memenuhi syarat dan uji iritasi akut dermal masuk dalam kategori iritasi sangat ringan.Kata kunci? uji sifat fisik, soothing gel, lidah buaya, buah naga, iritasi akut dermal

Abstract

The ethanol extract of yellow pumpkin fruit (Cucurbita Moschata D.) has been recognized to have flavonoid compounds using the colorimetric method (AlCl3). The purpose of this study was to determine the levels of flavonoids in the ethanol extract of yellow pumpkin fruit (Cucurbita Moschata D.). Ethanol extract of pumpkin fruit (Cucurbita Moschata D.) was obtained by maceration using 70% ethanol with a concentration of 5 ppm. The concentration of flavonoid compounds in yellow pumpkin fruit extract (Cucurbita Moschata D.) was carried out using a UV-Visible spectrophotometer with a comparative material namely quercetin using the colorimetric method (AlCl3). The measurement of the quercetin calibration curve used a concentration of 2,4,6,8,10 ppm, and the equation y = 0.18x + 0.2785 with the correlation coefficient (r) = 0.9877. The measurement of maximum wavelength absorption is carried out in the range of 200-600 nm. The maximum wavelength produced is 268 nm at a concentration of 2 ppm or 2 ?g / mL. The absorbance value of the sample of ethanol extract of pumpkin fruit is 0,2875; 0,2894; 0,2976 with an average of 0,2915. Based on the results of the research that has been done, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of yellow pumpkin fruit (Cucurbita Moschata D.) has a level of flavonoid compounds 0,00288 mg/g or 0,288% at concentration of 5 ppm. Keyword ? level, Flavonoid, UV-Vis, Cucurbita moschata, Pumpkin

Abstract

Spray gel as an alternative to hand washing soap. Pandan wangi leaves are efficacious as antiseptics. This study aimed to obtain a good formulation of spray gel pandan wangi leaves extract and efficacious as an antiseptic. The method used in this study was to compare the concentration of Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) on three formulas including 0,5%; 1,5%; and 2,5%. The formulas was tested for their physical properties to determine the best formula and will be tested for physical stability at room temperature (28o±2oC) for 4 weeks and followed by testing the effectiveness of antibacterials. The result showed that formula I (0,5% HPMC concentration) was the best formula. This formula fulfills all the criteria for good physical properties. The formula I was stable at room temperature and has effectiveness against Staphylococcus aureus.
